![]() so my rsync command looks like this: rsync -av -delete ~/Music/iTunes/ /Volumes/robert/Music/iTunes > ~/Automation/automator/logs/itunes_rsync.log I also took out the -force option (because it's redundant when also using -delete). ![]() I used the link provided by James in this answer (but I took out the -size-only option after the first sync): Is there a free, automated solution for syncing iTunes libraries between 2 Macs?īelow is how I finally did it based on the rsync suggestion: However, since I like to use the "keep my iTunes library organized" option, the files get moved into the iTunes music directory and I can't write a script that will compare my MacBook Pro's iTunes music library with the "Automatic" directory on the server.Īlso, a simple file copy will not sync metadata like ratings and plays. I thought about setting up folder actions that would copy the files into the "Automatically add to iTunes" folder. I'd like to be able to keep the music library on my MacBook Pro in sync with the desktop machine so that my wife can access everything from her own MacBook Pro. I've done a lot of organization and cleanup of my music library and have it all on my MacBook Pro. I also have a MacBook Pro that is my main computer. What I was merely doing was correcting the false information you had stated regarding what Spotify can do.I have a desktop system that I use as a server. I'm not, I couldn't care less which music player you choose to use, makes no odds to me. So don't try to convince me to Spotify UI This discussion was never about listening to other people's playlists. Personally I don't need playlists done by someone else ![]() I don't know how to use Photoshop but that doesn't mean it's bad at what it does, it means I lack the knowledge. The reason I take issue is not that you didn't know Spotify could do these things but that you were stating the (mistaken) lack of functionality as a reason for managing playlists as being inconvenient. You presented a list of things you incorrectly thought Spotify couldn't do, quite clearly you lacked the knowledge and that is totally OK. I find Spotify interface inconvenient.įair enough, you don't like their interface, I can understand personal taste but you are moving the goalposts of this discussion quite a bit by shifting your stance from "things you think Spotify can't do" to "I don't like it". So in summary, another example of someone having a negative opinion of Spotify purely based on their own lack of understanding. The album view shows only the songs from the chosen album and in their normal designated play order. A feature which is considered very useful as it allows you to jump straight into the 'greatest hits' of an artist that you are unfamiliar with. No, what you are talking about is the artist view, which shows the artist's most popular songs at the top. How often do people seriously remove entire albums from playlists?Īlso albums view is somehow hidden by promoting "best songs"on the top. Then you cannot remove whole album easily.ĭefine easily? As far as I can tell you need to remove songs individually from a playlist but I'm not sure that is really an issue. OK, so no you can't add all albums sorted by date in one shot but you certainly don't need to 'add songs individually', you merely chose the 'add to playlist' option from the album's menu as shown in my earlier screen shot. You cannot add all albums sorted by date in one shot, you need to add songs manually. ![]()
